Siam Piwat and G-Yu Creative Join Forces with BMA and Partners to Host “SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2025 THAILAND QUALIFIERS” A Trash Collection Sports Competition to Select Thailand’s Representative for the World Championship in Japan

Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., a leading real estate and retail developer and the owner and operator of Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and a co-owner of ICONSIAM, ICS, and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok, is joining hands with G-Yu Creative Co., Ltd. to organize the “SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2025 THAILAND QUALIFIERS.” This is Thailand’s second national qualifying event for the global trash collection sports competition to be held in Tokyo, Japan. The initiative brings together public and private sectors, led by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Charoen Pokphand Group, to foster global environmental engagement. The opening ceremony will be presided over by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt on July 13, 2025, at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon.

The “SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2025” is supported by The Nippon Foundation, one of Japan’s largest non-profit organizations, with the goal of promoting values around waste separation and environmental conservation through a unique and accessible sports format. This international initiative encourages people to view trash collection as an enjoyable, engaging activity and raises awareness about global waste issues.

Narathip Rattapradit, Chief Operating Officer of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., stated, “Siam Piwat continues its mission of ‘The Siam Piwat Way,’ which aims to create landmark destinations that support balanced growth in economy, society, and the environment. We are committed to integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business operations. Through our strong public-private partnerships, we continue to organize SPOGOMI as a creative way to engage the public in environmental education and action. By transforming waste into a source of fun and meaningful activity, we aim to inspire people of all ages to adopt sustainable habits in their daily lives. All waste collected during the event will be managed through our ‘Siam Piwat 360° Waste Journey to Zero Waste’ initiative, which aims to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2040.”

Yupares Aekturaprakun, CEO of G-Yu Creative Co., Ltd., added, “SPOGOMI is a competitive sport originating from Japan that involves collecting and sorting trash while infusing fun and teamwork. It encourages individuals to start taking action on environmental issues by beginning with proper waste separation. We hope that this event will inspire participants to become active contributors in creating a cleaner and more livable society.”

Thailand recently hosted its national qualifying round for the global litter collection competition, adopting the same rules and format as Japan’s renowned SPOGOMI initiative. This year, 187 teams applied to compete, with 67 teams ultimately selected to participate. Collectively, the teams gathered a total of 492.56 kilograms of litter from public areas.

Emerging as the champion team and Thailand’s official representative for the “SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2025” in Tokyo, Japan, is the team named “Beautiful Runners for the Planet”, comprising Thanida Nikornmalakul, Patricia Duangcham, and Winai Puengpipattrakun. They earned the top score of 5,758.7 points through their efforts. The first runner-up title went to Team No Name, scoring 4,988.5 points, while the second runner-up was Team Green Horizon, with 4,346.3 points.

The winning team, “Beautiful Runners for the Planet,” shared their thoughts after the event, saying: This was a truly meaningful activity, and we are proud to have successfully completed the mission. Everyone who participated today played a role in helping the planet.

All three of us are avid runners, so this event allowed us to both exercise and contribute to environmental conservation at the same time. We hope more people will become conscious of environmental issues. From our experience, it’s clear that there is still a large amount of litter along the streets. If each person becomes more mindful about reducing waste, knowing what we’re holding in our hands and disposing of it properly—and even separating waste at home—we can all help make the world a better place to live.”

The event will also feature expert talks from leading environmentalists such as Chanat Wutthivikakan (KongGreenGreen), Dr. Ittikorn Srichanban (Westbuy Delivery Co., Ltd.), Wishulada Panthanuvong (WISHULADA), and Poonyos Kampholkanchana (Paper Ranger), who will share knowledge on waste management.

Additional highlights include environmental-themed activities such as the GOMI REVOLUTION 2025 university student recycling project contest, hands-on workshops, panel discussions with sustainability influencers, and the Gomi Transformation fashion show by WISHULADA X MISS EARTH THAILAND 2024, where recycled materials are transformed into stylish outfits by artist Witchulada Pantranunwong and modeled by contestants from MISS EARTH THAILAND 2024.
