Siam Piwat Partners with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to Launch “Stop Food Waste SDG 12.3” Initiative, Creating a Concrete Model for Sustainable Food Waste Management

Siam Piwat Group has joined forces with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to move forward with the “Stop Food Waste SDG 12.3” project, with the aim of initiating a comprehensive model for food waste management in the service sector. This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, together with 14 partner organizations, in June 2025, to demonstrate a shared commitment to advancing Thailand’s Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12). The initiative seeks to promote sustainable production and consumption while jointly accelerating Thailand’s transition toward a green economy.

At the event, Ms. Naratipe Ruttapradid, Chief Operating Officer of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., reaffirmed the company’s vision to implement systematic food waste management. Siam Piwat has expanded its collaboration with all restaurant tenants across its shopping centers, namely Siam Paragon, ICONSIAM, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and ICS by introducing processes to separate food waste from other waste streams at the source. The collected food waste is then transformed into soil conditioners, coffee-ground compost, and bio-fermented solutions used to nurture greenery within the malls, eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers entirely. Additionally, some of the processed waste is distributed to farmers as animal feed, maximizing resource utilization and minimizing food waste disposal.

Siam Piwat also served as the venue partner for the Kick-Off event of Stop Food Waste SDG 12.3”, held on January 6 at the Event Area, NEXTOPIA, Siam Paragon. Organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) and the Institute of Technology and Informatics for Sustainable Development, the event featured a symbolic presentation to participating restaurants, signaling their commitment to reducing food waste and promoting responsible consumption. The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Preeyaporn Suwanaged, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. This initiative builds upon Siam Piwat’s “360° Waste Journey to Zero Waste” program, which has been continuously implemented to achieve its goal of Zero Waste to Landfill by 2040. It is in line with “Siam Piwat Way” concept, which aims to support sustainable urban growth across all key dimensions and also represents an important starting point for collaboration among all sectors in creating a model for food waste management in the service sector. The project also encourages changes in consumer behavior, leading to tangible reductions in food waste and further expansion toward building a society of sustainable production and consumption in Thailand. It will be implemented at three additional partner shopping centers serving as pilot organizations, and will be expanded to agencies, organizations, the business and service sectors, as well as members of the general public, enabling them to participate in food waste reduction in order to jointly and continuously drive food waste reduction on a broad scale.
